50 years ago the U.S. nation desperately seek to bring a man to the moon and safely returned him home, a race that brought many together researching on how to fully complete this task before the Soviet Union, who proofed to have the leading technology to bring a men into space and returned him safely. Today the U.S. nation and other nations across the world face a different type of race, since it has become clear that the Internet has turned into a great dependency. A new race has started to develop systems and security that can hold up strong to new threats while keeping integrity. “The National security and economic health of the United States depend on the security, stability and integrity of our nation’s cyberspace, both in public and private sectors” (Obama begins cybersecurity review, 2009) said John Brennan from the Obama’s Administrations.
How are Private Industry Information Assurance Needs Different from Public Sector Information Assurance Needs?
For any organization, agency or business Information Assurance and information security are a must. Private Sector industries and Public Sector industries both require keeping track of records and assets in a secure and efficient manner while also being able to recover and account for every data within it. But as each sector is greatly control by its profit, revenue and industry laws, they both relate from each other by having similar needs and challenges.
How is information Assurance different from Information Security?
Information Assurance and information security are two separate terms that over the years have been closely interchanged between one another. However the two terms are different from one another.
Information Security is “the process of ensuring that data/information is protected from unauthorized access, disclosure, transfer, modification or destruction”. This protection takes into account security of systems by ensuring the proper configuration and settings are into place in order to prevent unwanted access. Things like user authentication, access control, firewalls, intruder detection systems, antivirus software and encryption mechanisms are only a few of the things that are taken into account when thinking of the security and integrity of the data/information.
